✅ The Evidence:
2019 – Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. 12 overweight adults with mild-to-moderate fatty liver drank hydrogen-rich water daily for 28 days. Researchers measured reduced liver fat on MRI and improved AST, a key liver enzyme – with no adverse effects. (Korovljev et al., Clinics and Research in Hepatology and Gastroenterology)
2022 – Randomised, placebo-controlled trial, 43 people with fatty liver. After 13 weeks of hydrogen inhalation, participants showed improved blood lipids and liver enzymes, with significant reductions in liver fat in moderate-to-severe cases. (Tao et al., Journal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine)
2017 – Laboratory study on alcohol. In mice fed a chronic-plus-binge alcohol diet, hydrogen-rich water limited the rise in liver enzymes and the build-up of fat in the liver. (Lin et al., World Journal of Gastroenterology)
The research is still early. The trials are small, and not every study has hit statistical significance, one 8-week trial in 30 people found only positive trends. We won't overclaim. But the mechanism is sound, the safety profile is clean, and the direction of the evidence is consistent.
